Seismic Imaging for Shale Gas, CO2 Sequestration, VSP, and Engineering Applications

Exploring in the Marcellus Shale or other shale gas plays and need seismic structure information? Evaluating CO2 Sequestration Sites? AOA have a unique capability for small footprint accelerated impact source land seismic that is ideally suited for imaging shale gas plays such as the Marcellus, Geneseo, Haynsville, and Barnett Shales.  The AxisTM source is mobile, small footprint, with stable high frequencies and deep penetration.  Compared with dynamite or vibroseis sources, the AxisTM system has distinct advantages in permitting, logistics, data quality, and in minimizing environmental effects.

AXIS™ 2700 Seismic Source

AOA Geophysics Inc. has truck-mounted, AXIS™ 2700 accelerated weight drop units.  These, together with skilled operators and mechanics, are available to undertake seismic surveys for oil and gas prospects, tar sands, oil shales and engineering / geotechnical work.  No project is too small or too large.

Safe but powerful, the AXIS™ 2700 has demonstrated that it can generate high quality data at depths well in excess of 10,000ft. The semi-enclosed hammer, rear-mounted on each truck, is accelerated by nitrogen loaded springs with an operating pressure range from 500 to 800 psi. And besides its high energy output, AXIS™ 2700 is environmentally less damaging than alternative sources such as dynamite.

The solid aluminum base-plate leaves a minimal footprint, and the unit’s versatility makes it especially suited to seismic data acquisition in urban environments and in other sensitive areas where explosives are prohibited. Less intrusive than a vibe buggy, the AXIS™ 2700 truck is also easy to maneuver. The units are highly reliable, require little maintenance, have less environmental impact than comparable energy sources and are relatively economical to run.

AOA can offer for rent a suite of 28kHz geophones.  Please call for more details.

AOA Geophysics Inc.’s  two AXIS™ 2700s are housed and maintained in our south Texas workshop.  For long distance mobilization they can be taken by low-loader to any North America destination.  For local projects, we will drive to your site.

AXIS™ 2700 is an impulsive stacking source with a highly repeatable source signature. AXIS™ 2700 can cycle at a maximum rate of 10 to 12 seconds. Power output graphs available on request.

Safe, reliable, versatile and economical.
