Land Seismic Exploration

AOA Geophysics, Inc. specializes in conducting high resolution Accelerated Weight Drop (AWD) surveys using cutting edge cable-free instrumentation. As innovators of groundbreaking geophysical technologies, we are accustomed to providing alternative approaches to acquiring high quality data, customized to even the smallest or most difficult projects.

In the industry today, many small to intermediate independent oil and gas companies are finding it difficult to schedule their seismic acquisition projects, because major contractors prioritize on large projects. AOA’s services address this unmet need in the industry.

Our service package is also suited for seismic exploration in urban areas and production fields were explosives are prohibited. It minimizes operating costs, crop damage and environmental impact while providing high quality data.

AOA provides high definition image services not only for conventional oil and gas prospects, but also for the growing tar sands, coal tar, and coal methane exploration markets. These resources are typically shallow and benefit from high resolution seismic data.

Land seismic services include:

  • Seismic program parameter design and feasibility studies.
  • Aerial, satellite, topographic and multi-layered progress mapping.
  • Project management from planning to delivery.
  • Regulatory, surface, mineral, and tenants permitting.
  • AWD and dynamite seismic data acquisition with cabled and cable-free systems.
  • Vertical Seismic Profiling (VSP) and downhole seismic or LVL.

In Touch with New Technology

We use only the most modern seismic survey equipment and will customize and integrate equipment to enhance data quality and meet special field operations and environmental conditions. Through our alliance with Ascend Geo, we will be contributing to the advancement of the new highly portable G-5 cable-free recording system which will be field tested by AOA in early 2008. This groundbreaking recording system should be available to our clients midyear.

AOA is also actively involved with the advancement of cutting edge non-dynamite source technology. The Nitrogen Gas-Charged Accelerated Weight Drop (AWD) seismic energy source system by United Service Alliance (USA) is rapidly gaining a reputation as being the surface source of the future. These new systems are able to acquire seismic data where other conventional energy source systems cannot. They are high powered and can be used with almost any type of modern seismograph system for a variety of 2D and 3D seismic programs.

Our Knowledge

Our employees and consultants are highly qualified geophysicists, geoscientists, field management and technical personnel experienced with geophysical survey methods for petroleum exploration applications, geotechnical, geo-engineering, and environmental projects. Working closely with our clients, careful attention is given to survey design parameters, project planning and equipment selection, HSE issues, and regulations that may affect geophysical operations and data quality.

AOA provides custom survey crews assembled and outfitted with the minimal amount of personnel and equipment required. Our field staff is highly scalable through our relationships with seismic field personnel agencies.  By outsourcing – and leveraging our own key technical staff - AOA can perform small as well as large projects.

Delivered Results

In planning 3D seismic surveys, AOA Geophysics uses the MESA Professional and Expert software. Whether a seismic survey is basic or complex, this software provides comprehensive survey design, parameters analysis, and predictive modeling that can help assure the success of any acquisition program.

Our services include:

  • Survey design and subsurface coverage analysis for 3D/3C and VSP surveys.
  • Geologic modeling, ray tracing and illumination analysis.
  • Chronological project tracking and crew production statistics.

AOA in-house seismic data processing is performed using GeoTomo Thrustline software on seismic survey projects over project areas with complex terrain and subsurface geologies. Conventional 2D and 3D seismic data processing is provided by one of several reputable seismic data processing centers.
