AOA Geophysics Inc. offers clients a full range of MT and EM consulting services; project planning and specification, acquisition contractor selection, crew supervision, and data processing and interpretation. We specialize in both regional and prospect-oriented exploration, and have pioneered in-field robust processing and near-real-time interpretation. Integration with seismic, gravity and magnetic data is a specialty. We have worked on exploration projects both within the United States and internationally, in Europe, Asia, North Africa, Mexico, South America, and the Mid-East
AOA in collaboration with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography introduced commercial marine MT (MMT) services for hydrocarbon exploration objectives in 1995. AOA now offers a complete MMT service including survey planning, data acquisition, data processing, and interpretation. Experience to date includes surveys in the Gulf of Mexico and Mediterranean Sea.
In 2002, AOA formed an affiliated company, AGO, which worked closely with one of the supermajor oil companies to pioneer and commercialize the application of Controlled Source Electromagnetics (CSEM) as a risk-reducing technology for offshore hydrocarbon exploration. AGO was acquired by Schlumberger, an acquisition that was fully consummated in 2006.
With regard to MT experience, Arnold Orange, AOA Chairman, first became involved with MT measurements in 1961, and participated (beginning in 1966) in the initial application in the United States of MT to commercial hydrocarbon exploration. He has been associated with the method continuously ever since. Robert Furgerson, AOA Director of Electromagnetic Services, took his first MT measurements in 1978 and acquired thousands of stations used for geothermal, oil and gas, and crustal investigations. AOA geophysicists have specialized in frontier exploration since as early as 1969, and although the AOA MT group utilizes the full range of exploration technologies; seismic, gravity and, magnetics, MT has remained a specialty. Each AOA MT geophysicist has a minimum of 15 years experience in MT applications. Wells have been drilled on many prospects where AOA geophysicists have performed an MT interpretation, with a high percentage of the interpretations confirmed.
AOA MT data processing and interpretation is supported by processing and interpretation software which includes AOA’s GEOTOOLS®, an industry standard, and other company developed software, with a full range of one-, two-, and three-dimensional analysis and modeling capabilities.
